First Cut:

"So what made you interested in a job with the railroad?"

I think I answered her coherently, I'm not sure. I may have blithered a little bit. I'm certain I let at least one small giggle out. Whatever it was I said must have been enough.

I've made the first cut, you see. My resume and application were accepted by the Kansas City Southern Railroad Company, and an HR agent contacted me this afternoon to set up an in-person interview in Baton Rouge on the 13th for the position of Conductor Trainee at the KCS Latanier Yard just outside of town here.

So what I need now, more than anything, is for everyone out there who gives even the slightest whit about me to send good thoughts, pray heartfelt prayers, spin prayer wheels, burn incense or do stuff with your chakra for me.

Steel wheels here I come. I hope.

I can't even express what a visceral thrill this gives me, for your sake!

I had to give up the art sales job, but happily landed where I'm supposed to be. Truly.

I'm afraid someone's going to have to stick me with a pin so I deflate enough to get through the office door, meno. *happy grin*

Joan, I hate like hell you had to give up haggling with Joisey-ites but if you've found The Place then I couldn't be happier for you! Trust me, of all people I know what it's like to seek and not find.

Did the new bosses let you keep your foot jewelry?

Merelyme, that'll do! Lowfat milk, please? *lol*

Thank you, Schmoop! I don't think the Universe owes me any favors currently but good thoughts are always welcome!

MoI, pluck that joker! *dancing a little jig*

I just did some stuff with my chakra. Now I have to go clean it up.

Good luck!

BTW, I'm bummed your daughter didn't get to perform. I was looking forward to hearing about that.

I'm doing my goddess howling at moon dance for you tonight. (I swear it won't have anything to do with peartinis - it's all for you)

Woot!!!!

OH SWEET JEEBUS!! The job of your dreams???!! They're gonna PAY you to drive a train???
(can you tell I'm all kindsa excited for you?)

Now I need to figure out if I can cross all my fingers and toes and still play with my chakras *grin*

You go get 'em!

Conductor? Cool! I guess a freight conductor doesn't get the cool red cap, does he?

Did you mention your birthday freight driving experience? ;-)

So, are you actually going to accept the paycheque or just take it out in giddiness?

Daisy said...

I'm doing the hokey-pokey and sending freight-loads of good vibes!

Vulgar Wizard said...

Oh, he's gonna take the check, or the wife will keeeeeeel him!

I'm so excited about this I peed a little when I got the text message. I'm waiting for them to call for a reference so I can get him hired. Wow!

Irrelephant said...

Scott, I don't have any shame wearing it NOW! *lol*

Just be careful where you aim that thing, Shao. I've heard stories...

CC, I was pretty let down too, but the fact that she even wanted to do it is, in my book, a HUGE step.

Peartinis, eh? Nothing to do with , eh? Okay! I'm gullible enough to believe you!

Jean, I won't start out driving them just yet but I'll certainly be riding on and in them. Engineer is the next step up, and I don't plan on stopping my climb until I'm a Yardmaster. *wicked grin* He gets to play with ALL the trains.

Gordo, I don't think he does, no, but I'll ask at the interview. *wink* As for the birthday experience I may tell them it was for The Other Guys, don't want to get a future brother in trouble. And the paycheck? Lord, I'm almost willing to pay THEM.

Daisy, I hope you're the straw that pushes the balance in my favor!

VW, you're right. The pay doesn't really start into the "wow" area until I've gotten past the first five months (8 weeks of school, two of orientation, 4-6 weeks of OJT at my yard then 90 day probationary and THEN I'm an official Conductor) but ooooh when it does...

I still gotta get hired first. :(

Nice! I'm absolutely thrilled for you!

I hope it's not too late to offer you my sincerest wishes of luck! You've got to let us know how this turns out!!!

I am sending the most awesomely sexy good juju your way! And I'll do a little half-nekked "Irrelephant Becomes a Conductor" dance when I get home.

Joan of Argghh! said...

Conductor, eh?

How much fun can we have with that title for you?

Hmmmm...

And, a uniform, I suppose, yes? Serious chick-magnet stuff.

Title. Uniform. Authoritah.

Just be careful about women asking you to punch their ticket.

:o)

Irrelephant said...

Thank you, BG! So how is the catering thing going?

Rayne, you're right on time--my interview is tomorrow at 3 in the state's capital city. I'm about to explode with pent-up nervous energy!

Mona, if I don't get the job then I'll know you didn't do the half-nekkid jiggly-bits dance and I'll be crushed. Utterly crushed.

*lol* Close, Joan, but not quite. I'll be a freight conductor, not one with Amtrak, so uniform will be jeans and a T, the only requirement being 8" lace-up steel toed boots. As for the title? Well now. *big grin*
